Costa Blanca Towns: Benijófar

Situated on the right bank of the river Segura, Benijófar is a point of reference within Vega Baja, the southernmost sub-region of the Costa Blanca. It is a charming little pueblo of 4,200+ inhabitants which has a history dating back to Al-Andalus, the Islamic caliphate that came to rule most of the Iberian Peninsula. The name Benijófar comes from the Arabic Bani Ya’far, a tribe name meaning “sons of Ya’far”, the dwellers of an Islamic farmhouse.
Strategic location
What makes Benijófar especially interesting is its quick and easy access to the A-37 Alicante-Cartagena motorway and its proximity to the coastal towns of the region with their fantastic beaches: Guardamar del Segura, Torrevieja, and Orihuela Costa. Another factor to note about Benijófar is its benign and healthy year-round climate, in part created by the two nearby saltlakes. Imagine living in a place where average midwinter temperatures are around 14°C! Add the slightly elevated location that offers sweeping views of the mountain-lined countryside … and you quickly become enchanted by Benijófar!

Benijófar has become the ideal place to live for many citizens of the European Union in recent years and is in continuous growth. Many of the rather small-scale developments, situated within easy walking distance of the town centre, offer detached villas on fair-sized plots as well as spacious townhouses, most of them within the €200,000 to €500,000 price range.
A laid-back lifestyle
Small market towns on the Costa Blanca, such as Benijófar, typically offer everything you need for your daily life, but on a smaller, more familiar scale than the larger cities. Relax and watch the world go by at a street café. Once a week – Tuesdays in Benijófar – you can browse the stands of a delightful street market (mercadillo) for fresh fruit & veg, meat, fish, clothes, and more. You always have your well stocked local supermarkets within a walk as well. For more serious shopping, there are several large commercial centres within a half-hour drive. Oh, and seven 18-hole courses as well!
Check out Benijófar!
