Orihuela Costa is a coastal district consisting of several small towns that all belong to the municipality of Orihuela, situated in the south of the province of Alicante, near the autonomous Region of Murcia. With around eight kilometres of coastline – as the crow flies – and an inland depth of up to five kilometres, Orihuela Costa is located more than 30 kilometres from the main city of Orihuela. Its neighbouring towns are Torrevieja, Pilar de la Horadada, and San Miguel de Salinas.

One of the most popular second-residence places on the entire Costa Blanca, Orihuela Costa is a district almost entirely made up of large housing estates attracting, above all, people from central and northern Europe. Since many foreigners who are de facto residents never register in the census, it is impossible to present exact numbers, but it is estimated that well over 70% of Orihuela Costa’s residents are non-Spanish. They love one of the world’s best climates, the many fine beaches, two marinas, four 18-hole golf courses, great services, and a laid-back international atmosphere. The main residential areas of Orihuela Costa are Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cabo Roig, Campoamor, La Regia, Villamartin, and La Florida.

Most properties in the area are villas, townhouses, or maisonettes, although apartment blocks – typically not higher than four floors – are clearly becoming a trend due to the increasing scarcity of building plots. Prices for new two-bed, two-bath properties now start from just under €200,000. Any properties within a walk of a beach are excellent buy-to-let opportunities.

Regarding services, a central focal point in Orihuela Costa is Zenia Boulevard, Alicante province’s largest shopping centre. Uniquely planned as a small village with shopping streets criss-crossing a total area of 255,000 square metres, this supermall boasts more than 150 shops, 30 bars and restaurants, and a great variety of leisure facilities such as a bowling alley, casino, kiddie park, etc. etc. The huge parking hall, free of charge, offers several access points to the shopping streets via escalators.

Orihuela Costa is roughly equidistant to two international airports: Alicante-Elche (ALC) and Murcia (RMU), a typical driving time being around 40 minutes.
