Costa Cálida
Costa Cálida is the name of the coastline pertaining to the Region of Murcia. One of its main natural features is the Mar Menor, a vast shallow saltwater lagoon delimited from the Mediterranean by La Manga, a narrow 21-kilometre highly urbanised peninsula with its famous namesake golf resort on a hillside overlooking the lagoon. Other main areas include Cartagena, a famous historic harbour, the sandy-beach resort Puerto de Mazarrón, and Águilas, a busy coastal town further down south. The capitol city of the región, Murcia (pop. 460,000), is situated half an hour’s drive inland from the Mar Menor. The brand-new international airport, Región de Murcia (RMU), is well connected to the region’s coastal resorts.
